Artists/Photographers/Writers Guidelines for CardMakers
CardMakers, established in 1978, has specialized in publishing business-to-business holiday greetings for more than 27 years. We do also publish "everyday" cards for use in the boating and investment businesses.
Tasteful, good-natured, humor is the general theme of our cards. The bulk of our sales are direct to the consumer (business) via catalog(s). We also maintain a substantial internet presence. Each year we commission or "buy" many new designs. We currently work with artists throughout the U.S. and are always on the lookout for new talent. We buy all greeting card rights and copyright published work under the CardMakers banner. Usually, we try one or two designs from a "new" artist then, depending on customer acceptance, add to the future number commissioned. There is no hard and fast rule for compensation but we start around $250 per design. The volume of submissions and reality of our capability to be responsive require us to make major changes in the way we review your work. Effective immediately, we will no longer return work/samples submitted to us. No more SSAE. We will continue to review submissions - either by mail or E-mail (a new policy). Please keep E-mail files SMALL (believe it or not, some of our service is still dial up - large incoming files will be deleted). Samples requested by us as a result of initial submission will (of course) be returned. We welcome your creative submissions and hope you understand our main business is publishing cards. We have limited resources to devote to this aspect of the business and need to streamline the activity as much as possible for everyone's benefit. That said, we hope accepting e-mail submissions will enable us to be more responsive than in the past. What are we looking for?
What we are not looking for;
A review of CardMakers.com will give you a good idea of the style of our business and should be a strong indicator of whether or not your work will suit our needs. Please address comments/questions or brief sample files to info@cardmakers.com or submit non-returnable samples to CardMakers, PO Box 236, Lyme, NH 03768. *See CardMakers.com for guidelines. Thank you for your interest. Peter Diebold, Owner |
